REVIEW | Maybelline SuperStay Matte Ink

I have been curious about the Maybelline SuperStay Matte Ink liquid lipsticks for quite some time. When they first came out, I admired the color range, but didn't go grab them right away. As they began to pop up in my local stores (which take FOREVER to get the new-new), I grew even more curious, but still didn't budge. However, after flipping through magazine after magazine featuring all these beautiful women rocking various shades of matte ink liquid lipsticks, I decided I would go ahead and give them a try if I catch them on sale.

It was just my luck on the day I decided to buy them, Walgreens was having a sale on Maybelline lip products. And while the names alone made me want to purchase all of them, I had decided early on that I wanted to try four in particular. After checking my note app in my phone and several screenshots (because I don't go to the makeup counter without my "research"), I found three of the four I wanted to try in the store. I went home with Dreamer, Lover, and Creator and could not wait to add them to my makeup bag. Would they live up to my high hopes though?

DREAMER is cool-toned pastel pink. I usually pass on pinks as light as this, but with a name like Dreamer, I could not pass it up! But once I got home, I learned Dreamer was not the easiest lipstick to get along with. It applies a bit streaky, for starters. And because it dries quickly, it doesn't give you much time to work out an even application before getting that perfected pout. I didn't seem to have this issue with Lover nor Creator, so I assumed it was because Dreamer is lighter in pigment.

LOVER is a pretty mauve that I find to be a perfect nude for spring. It applies like a warm rosy shade and dries down to the cool mauve you see on my lips. While I love the shade, it doesn't look like the color on the packaging. At least not on my lips! It fades down at the end of the day into a nice stain, though. It still looks flattering by the day's end probably because it's the closest to a nude, neutral shade in the bunch for me. You guys know I love a nice "my-lips-but-better" shade and that's exactly what I get with Lover.

CREATOR is such a gorgeous warm matte purple! I get the most compliments when I wear this one. If you were eyeing that pretty purple Too Faced Matte Lippie in Unicorn but don't like that $21 price tag, try this one instead. They might not be exact dupes, but they look quite similar. Same thing goes for MAC Matte Lipstick in Heroine as they read very similarly on my lips.

For the most part, I like the Maybelline SuperStay Matte Ink liquid lipsticks. The application is easy enough. With the "arrow" applicator, I'm able to line my lips with the point of the applicator, then fill the center of my lips in with the hollow middle. I compare it to the Pixi MatteLast Liquid Lip applicator and really love it, as I can apply as above for even product distribution.

The formula, on the other hand might be a pass for some. True to the "Matte Ink" name, they are "inky" in the way that they can be thick and tacky. They apply evenly for the most part (with the exception of Dreamer) and can feel a bit heavy when first applied. However, they are much more comfortable after drying.

What I love most about the SuperStay Matte Ink Lip is the lasting power. As with many of the liquid lipsticks I've tried, they last for hours upon hours. The brand boasts a 16-hour lasting time, and I believe it! I just have never kept one on longer than 7 hours, though. The down side is they can be a bit hard to get off. I use makeup wipes and coconut oil and there's still a bit of a stain left behind. I'm not going anywhere after I take off my makeup but bed, so it doesn't really bother me.

And speaking of coconut oil, these lipsticks have a faint smell of coconut oil and bubblegum. I know many of you guys don't really care what lipsticks smell like, but some scents may turn people off or cause sensitivities. I like it, though.

If you haven't gotten your hands on these babies yet, you can find them just about anywhere. They're waiting for you to grab them up at your local Walmart, Walgreens, CVS, and other drugstores for around $9-10. And they're probably less than that if you are a part of a drugstore rewards program, because drugstores are always running sales on beauty products.

Have you tried any lippies from the
