Self-Care with Soarbae

If you've been here for a while, you already know we're big on self-care around here. I don't think I can stress enough how imperative it is to take care of yourselves. In order to show up in the world as your best self, you must pour into self often. As nurturers by default, I believe that many of us women only remember the importance of self-care when we're zero miles to empty and in desperate need of restoration. That's why every chance I get, I'm reminding someone (even myself) to add something to the weekly calendar to cater to your individual needs. Fulfilling these needs allows you to operate at your best in service of yourself and others. 

In sharing the message of self-care, I love discussing ways I incorporate self-care into my daily routine. So, when I learned that my dear cousin LaSheena Wilson created her own self-care brand specializing in candles, I knew I had to get familiar right away.  I am so grateful she sent me this beautiful package so I could share it with you guys!

REVIEW | Pixi MatteLast Liquid Lip Collection

If you follow me on Instagram, you probably already know how excited I get about updating my makeup bag each season. And since spring is finally here, I've been all about finding the perfect hues of rose, blush, coral and other softer, neutral shades to add to my beauty arsenal. Last month, I received a beautiful package from Pixi that included their entire Rose Essence Collection. And in this collection were five pretty lippies from the MatteLast Liquid Lip Collection. When I tell you I was over-the-moon hype about this package, please believe me! I could not wait to put these lippies to the test and see if they would find a home in my spring beauty arsenal.

When is the last time you set skincare goals for yourself? As someone who always seems to be working on getting her skin together, I set them often. I've tried more products than I can count, hoping to keep up a regimen that would give me perfect skin. You know, skin that rarely gets oily. Skin you never see deep pores or rough texture on when you're intimately close. HAUL + REVIEW | ColourPop Ultra Satin Lips

eShakti.com Online Shopping Experience | Review

There's something about the sleek-silhouette produced by wearing a perfectly fitting dress that makes me proud to be a woman. The way the skirt swings when I walk, the way the cut displays my legs, and the way the bodice caters to my curves makes me feel so soft and feminine.

I love wearing dresses, but while running around with my little ones, wearing them on the regular isn't always an option for me. They aren't always as comfortable and as versatile as jeans or pants. And it isn't often that I am able to find a dress that fits perfectly all over, without bunching in certain areas, and ill-fitting in other areas--not to mention options that are sexy without showing too much skin. But when I was presented the opportunity to review a dress from the online women's apparel company eShakti, I was given a whole new perspective. While shopping online, I was able to find a dress that fit me perfectly, is quite comfortable, and makes me feel all kinds of sexy and confident. So today I will be sharing my experience with perusing the eShakti site and choosing a custom dress with you guys.

Review | Sammydress Bodycon Bandage Dress

As you guys know, I just celebrated a birthday a few weeks ago. And for my usual birthday lunch date with hubby, I was on the search for a cute, affordable dress to wear. So when I was contacted by Sammydress.com to review an item from their site, I was elated! The timing couldn't have been more perfect! 

In case you aren't familiar, Sammydress.com is an online supplier of on-trend fashion and accessories based out of China. They ship internationally and have tons of items (lingerie, dresses, cosplay costumes, you name it!) for very affordable prices.

In my browsing of the site, I opted for this stylish round collar sleeveless bodycon knit bandage dress. It seemed conservative enough, as I didn't want to show too much cleavage or thigh. And I was hoping the fabric and cut of the dress would be forgiving, as my post-baby body is still a work in progress :-)

When the dress arrived, I must say I was pleased with my choice. The dress was identical to the photo on the site. And from using the handy sizing chart on the site, I would say my dress was very true to size. I was reluctant to try it on, as it is a bodycon dress and I was afraid it would be super tight-fitting. Much to my surprise, it wasn't. The cotton and polyester material of the dress was very breathable, and comfortable to move around in. I was winning, so far!

Now I don't know about you ladies, but when I'm trying on dresses in stores, I always "sit" or strike a sitting pose in the dress if there is no seating available. I stay going out to eat somewhere or on a movie date, so I wanted to make sure that the dress was comfortable while sitting as well as standing. 

Another win for Dre! And since hubby loved the dress as well, it looks like this baby was a winner all around! What do you guys think?

Overall, I loved how well the dress fit. The site's information was very accurate, as the dress was true to color, silhouette, and size. I was also very impressed with the quality of the dress, especially for the low price point. One thing that I will point out about this dress, is that it can be tricky for women who have an ample chest. I think the black banding of the dress is supposed to fall right under your breasts, but mine clearly does not. So ladies, please keep in mind that your overall body shape will affect the way the dress fits your frame. It may not look the same on every body, but it is quite flattering, if I say so myself.

REVIEW: Mario Badescu Vitamin C Serum

Ladies and gentlemen, I have a confession-- or in this case, more like an obsession.  Since trying out the Mario Badescu Skin Care line earlier this year, I have been IN LOVE with their products.  I am over the moon in awe with how well they have been working on my oily, hormonal skin.  So I was no doubt excited when I was presented with the opportunity to try out the Mario Badescu Vitamin C Serum. For those of us who have issues with hyperpigmentation and desire a more even complexion, skin care products with vitamin c are a dream come true.  In hopes that this serum would brighten my complexion and give my skin an overall smoother complexion, I decided to give Mario Badescu Vitamin C Serum a shot.

STATS:  Mario Badescu Vitamin C Serum is packaged in a 1 oz green glass bottle with a dropper as a dispenser, retailing at $45. Serums are known to run pretty expensive, so I personally would not mind paying this price for an effective one. As vitamin c alone is known to even skin tone, reduce signs of aging, and protect skin from damaging free radicals, the serum also contains hyaluronic acid which retains moisture and collagen which enhances firmness and elasticity. I don't know about you guys, but as a woman who wants to keep a youthful appearance and overall glow, reading these things on the packaging were quite promising. It sounded like I had struck a gold mine or had the fountain of youth at my fingertips! 

HOW TO USE: Thanks to the handy dropper dispenser, applying this serum is a breeze! Using the dropper, you're to apply 3-4 drops on clean skin every other night. So after I cleansed with my Mario Badescu Enzyme Cleansing Gel and applied the Mario Badescu Cucumber Lotion (for toning), I applied the serum. The packaging suggests that the serum can be used under the moisturizer or alone. I opted to use it alone the first time as serums can feel oily or "slick" once moisturizer is layered on. 

THE RUNDOWN: I will admit I wasn't sure what to expect with my first application. It stung a little, so I said to myself, "This serum must be working already!" I did not, however, expect for it to get to work on my skin so fast. After my first night of using the Mario Badescu Vitamin C Serum, I woke up the next morning with a glow. Seriously. My skin felt smooth and moisturized, not slick like it has been when using other serums. Within only a few weeks of use, I noticed that my skin looked refreshed and radiant WITHOUT MAKEUP. Not only did I notice a difference--so did others. It seems that everyone was complimenting me on my "glow."  My skin felt soft and supple to the touch, even a bit "tight" if you will. The dry patches I had developed in my t-zone became smooth.  Even my dark spots had faded significantly. While I can't say my hyperpigmentation is completely gone, I can say that it is clearing up quite beautifully. Now after a couple months of use, I can say that I am very impressed with the performance of Mario Badescu Vitamin C Serum. It has definitely been added to my beauty staples and skincare arsenal!

REVIEW: Juice Beauty Blemish Clearing Cleanser + Serum

Hey ladies and gentlemen and skincare fanatics alike!  If you have been following me on Instagram for a while, you may have noticed that I shared my excitement in trying Juice Beauty Organic Skincare products for the first time some months back.  And since I have been using these products for quite a while now, I decided it would be a good time to share the results I have gotten from trying the Juice Beauty line with you guys.  When assessing my skin care needs at the time of purchasing these products, I wanted to bring radiance to my dull skin and lighten my hyperpigmentation without using anything harsh, so I chose the Juice Beauty Blemish-Clearing Cleanser and the Juice Beauty Blemish-Clearing Serum.

Juice Beauty Blemish-Clearing Cleanser

Thoughts Upon Initial Use:

• Packaging-  the pump dispenser was the first thing I noticed about this cleanser.  I like this, because it allows one to dispense just enough product with a couple of light pumps.  I don't, however, like that I cannot travel with this bottle.  I've been doing a lot of back and forth lately and it would have been nice if a cap came with the product also.   

• Scent-  This cleanser has a scent similar to that of apple cider vinegar or household cleaner or something. Though the scent is not strong or overpowering, I did have a slight aversion to it during my first trimester.  The smell is probably due to the organic juices in the ingredients.

• Price- Juice Beauty Blemish-Clearing Cleanser is not a product that I would call cheap. In fact, this product costs $21.80, more than I've paid for other cleansers in the past.  The fact that this product is organic, however, really made me feel like the price I paid for this product would be worth it.  Especially since I looked forward to using something "pure" on my hormonal pregnant lady skin. 

Overall Thoughts After Use:  

As the instructions call to apply morning and evening to damp skin in a circular motion, I did so using my Olay Professional Pro-X Cleansing Brush I purchased last year.  The cleanser is a gel formula, so I was not sure how well it would cleanse my skin.  I suppose I'm so used to seeing lather and equating that with a deep cleansing.  To my surprise, the Juice Beauty Blemish-Clearing Cleanser left my skin feeling so clean and refreshed!

Juice Beauty Blemish-Clearing Cleanser is formulated to clarify, inhibit bacteria, remove impurities, prevent blemishes, and hydrate the skin.  I've been using it for the last 3-4 months and I must say I haven't had any breakouts while using it nor have I experienced any dryness.

What I like the most about this product is the fact that it's organic.  Since I'm pregnant, my skin is more sensitive now than it has ever been before and it feels great to know that I'm not putting anything harmful on my skin.  And though this is probably the most I've ever spent on a cleanser, it lasts for a long time! Overall, I think Juice Beauty Blemish-Clearing Cleanser makes for a great basic cleanser for those with sensitive skin.

Juice Beauty Blemish-Clearing Serum

Thoughts Upon Initial Use:

• Packaging- I like the packaging of this serum much more than I do the cleanser.  In fact, I think it's ideal for a serum.  It has a twist-top with a dropper attached, so that one is able to dispense as little or as much product as one needs. 

• Scent-  This serum, unlike the cleanser, has a refreshing citrus smell. I like it!

• Price- The Juice Beauty Blemish-Clearing Serum is $29 for 2 oz. Again, while the price of this product is higher than I would normally pay, it is a lot of product in the bottle.  And I have no problem spending more money for a product with quality ingredients.   

Overall Thoughts After Use:  

As the instructions suggest, I used the Juice Beauty Blemish-Clearing Serum morning and night after cleanser and before moisturizer.  Now the key to using this product is making sure you apply an oil-free moisturizer afterwards--otherwise you will be looking like an oil-slick!  At first, I was applying the serum all over my face twice daily.  But after feeling a bit greasy in the mornings when I woke up and as the day progressed, I decided to just use it as a spot-treatment under my moisturizer.

Juice Beauty Blemish-Clearing Serum is formulated to reduce breakouts, lighten scars, and renew skin for a fresher, clearer complexion.  These three things are always the top things I look for in skin care, so I was pleased to see that this product did its job! My skin feels smoother and I've only had one pimple in several months. My scarring has even lightened a bit (though it did take time to see results).  I didn't even realize it until I noticed I haven't had to wear full-coverage foundation in a while.

One main thing I like about this product is I didn't experience any tightness or stinging while using it, as I have with other serums in the past.  Like the cleanser, this serum is very gentle.

Recommended: Yes

Cons: can be a bit greasy when applied all over

Hello ladies! Did you know that Pantene Pro-V's Natural & Relaxed Line has now been divided into two separate lines? According to one's specific needs, folks now have the option to choose products from the Pantene Pro-V Truly Natural Collection or the Pantene Pro-V Truly Relaxed Collection.  I was intrigued when I initially saw the Pantene Pro-V Truly Relaxed Collection online, as the products promise to provide 72 hours of moisture. • Packaging-  I love the packaging of these products.  The bottles are very sleek and attractive.  They each also stand easily in the shower or on the counter without having to be turned upside down and contain sturdy tops that allow for adequate dispensing of product.  

• Scent-  Each product has a light, floral scent. Though the scent is light, it is quite invigorating!

• Affordability- The shampoos and conditioner each contain 12.6 fl oz (while the moisturizer is 8.7 fl oz), which is a great amount of product for only $4.99!   

Overall Thoughts After Use:  

I thoroughly enjoyed cleansing my hair with the Intense Moisturizing Shampoo.  At first, I was nervous about using a new shampoo, as many shampoos tend to leave my hair dry and brittle.  But I was pleasantly surprised with the performance of this product!  The Intense Moisturizing Shampoo was creamy and lathered pretty well.  Though there weren't many suds produced, I felt like I received a thorough cleansing.  My hair felt so clean afterwards and was not drying at all. And the light floral scent of the shampoo made my hair smell so fabulous!

Unfortunately, I didn't have the same luck with the Lightweight Shampoo.  Though it provided the same fresh scent and nice rich lather, my hair felt a bit dry and wiry after using it.  Perhaps I should have waited longer than two weeks in between shampoos, as I usually co-wash each week and only clarify once monthly.

My favorite product in the bunch was the Moisturizing Conditioner.  After shampooing, I used this product to condition under a plastic cap while showering. And would you believe that within minutes of applying the Moisturizing Conditioner, I could feel my hair getting softer--especially my 12 week post relaxer new growth!  After rinsing away the conditioner, my hair was unbelievably soft.  I could even run my fingers through my wet hair with ease.  Detangling my tresses were a breeze after using the Moisturizing Conditioner. And of course, my hair smelled divine :-)

The Oil Creme Moisturizer was "the icing on the cake" of the products in the Pantene Pro-V Truly Relaxed Line.  After shampooing and conditioning, I applied the Oil Creme Moisturizer down the length of my hair in sections followed by a small bit of grapeseed oil to seal in the product. While the product did an adequate job of moisturizing my hair without weighing it down, I liked the results better when I used Oil Creme Moisturizer on my wet hair opposed to dry hair. 

After cleansing, conditioning, and moisturizing my hair with Pantene Pro-V Truly Relaxed products, I was able to put it in my daily protective style, a soft sleek bun, with ease!

Product Review: Dove VisibleCare Toning Creme Body Wash

Product Overview:  Dove VisibleCare Toning Creme Body Wash is one of three creme body washes in the Dove VisibleCare with NutriumMoisture  line.  Like the Renewing and Softening options, this body wash was designed to nourish and replenish skin, giving its users visibly softer, smoother skin in a week's time (with daily use).  Dove VisibleCare Toning Creme Body Wash is infused with Vitamin E (a known antioxidant) and helps build skin's strength and elasticity.

Thoughts Upon Initial Use:

• Packaging-  I love the packaging of this product.  It stands easily in the shower without having to be turned upside down and does not drip from the bottle with re-positioning.

• Scent-  It has a powder fresh scent that appeals to me.  Though I enjoy the occasional fruity or floral scent, the clean scent of Dove VisibleCare Toning Creme Body is very refreshing.  Even after the body wash rinses away, a hint of the clean scent remains on your skin.

• Lather and Consistency-  I love the rich, thick lather it creates.  The smallest amount softly nourishes the skin, keeping it feeling moisturized even after the product rinses away.  I would apply this product to a loofah rather than a cloth because of its thickness, however both can be used.

This is more than enough body wash for one use.  See how thick it is?

Overall Thoughts After Ten Days Use:  While the product claims one will have "visibly more beautiful skin" in just one week, it is hard for me to distinguish a difference in my skin's appearance.  However, after ten days' use, my skin feels much softer and smoother than before.  Usually an exfoliation of some sort is the only thing that gives my skin this "baby" smooth-to-the-touch feeling.    I can't wait to see the difference it makes to my skin with three weeks' use!

*The rich lather the product makes with such a small amount of product also shows how long-lasting one bottle of body wash can be.  I like to keep price and quality of product in mind when I am purchasing beauty, skin and body care products.*

Product Rave: Anew Clinical Advanced Dermabrasion System

I've only been using Avon's Anew Clinical Advanced Dermabrasion System for three short weeks, but I'm sold on it!  I've been looking for a product for the longest to help clear up the hyperpigmentation (i.e dark spots) on my face.  Finding the perfect product has been a lot of trial and error for years, because nothing ever really clears them up without drying out my face or giving me an ugly rash.  So I was skeptical about using this product in the beginning.  After reading lots of reviews, I finally got the nerve to try it for myself.  And I'm so glad that I did!

After your nightly cleanse, you are instructed to use this product 2-3 nights a week at each level for 2 weeks. For example, you would use the products 2-3 nights during your first two weeks at Level 1.  After 2 weeks, you would change the dial to level 2 and repeat this process until you reach Level 4.  In total, you are to use this product for 8 weeks for maximum results.

I am currently at the end of my 3rd week using this product.  So far, my face is smoother to the touch and my dark spots have lightened a lot.  They haven't disappeared completely, but they are noticeably fading.  My husband has been asking me for the last two weeks have I been doing something new.  He says I have "a glow or something" lol!
