My Five Favorite Skincare Products from The Ordinary

As a skincare enthusiast, I am always on the lookout for the next best skincare products. Like the average consumer, I research products. I look online for their reviews. And because the promise of clear, radiant skin, I am convinced to take many of them home. Do they always meet my expectations? No. But is the pursuit of my skin's holy grail products still worth it? Absolutely. Because more often than not, I will find some pretty awesome goodies that fight for a spot in my daily skincare regimen. And if you've been reading here for a while, you know I have to share the goods with you guys, too!

While looking through previous skincare posts, I realized I did you guys a disservice. I have shared so much about The Ordinary brand for years through DMs, phone conversations, text messages, and emails, but I have never talked about them in depth here. A few years ago, I tried several of their products on a whim. Not only did they offer an array of products for my trouble areas (oily skin, uneven texture, and hyperpigmentation), they came at such an amazing price point. And while I've tried a few products that did not work for me, I found quite a few that I repurchase + keep in stock around here. Today, I'll be sharing five of my favorite skincare products from The Ordinary and how I incorporate them into my regimen.

skincare for hyperpigmentation
The Ordinary Mandelic Acid 10% | This is a lightweight serum formulated with 10% Mandelic acid. It's suitable for all skin types and doesn't contain parabens or sulfates. I love this serum for the gentle exfoliation it provides to reduce uneven texture and skin tone. It's also good for acne and blemishes, which you guys know I'm keen on getting rid of by any means! The Ordinary Lactic Acid 10% | The Lactic Acid serum is a "high-strength acid peeling formula" ideal for those with uneven tone or texture. It also aids in eliminating the appearance of fine lines and wrinkles. While this formula is great for exfoliation, it also contains Tasmanian Pepperberry, which reduce the appearance of inflammation most peels leave behind. As with the Mandelic Acid, this formula is suitable for all skin types and doesn't contain parabens or sulfates. (find here)

The Ordinary Niacinamide 10% + Zinc 1% | If you are looking for a serum that visibly reduces the look of large pores, this is the one! The Ordinary Niacinamide 10% + Zinc 1% Oil Control Serum is formulated with a great skincare combination as Niacinamide is reduces the appearance of blemishes and the Zinc regulates excess sebum activity. Right after applying this serum, my skin is always smooth to the touch! (find here)

The Ordinary AHA 30% + BHA 2% Peeling Solution | When I tell you this small bottle is something powerful, please believe me! This exfoliating peel improves texture + tone with the infusion of  glycolic acid (targets the outside layers of skin), lactic acid (targets outside layers of skin), and salicyclic acid (targets the pores to reduce congestion). You definitely notice an immediate difference after using this one!  (find here

The Ordinary Glycolic Acid 7% Toning Solution | While this toner doesn't get as much play as my daily toner, it still packs a punch, nonetheless. Formulated with 7% glycolic acid, this toner gently exfoliates to fight uneven tone and texture. It also contains ginseng and aloe vera to soothe and radiate skin. (find here)

deciem-the-ordinaryHow I Incorporate Them Into My Regimen

Daily, after cleansing and toning my face, I apply The Ordinary Niacinamide 10% + Zinc 1% Oil Control Serum. After the serum absorbs into my skin, I follow up with my moisturizer and sunscreen. And yes, I use sunscreen-- even on days when I don't leave the house!

At night, after cleansing and toning, I apply either The Ordinary Mandelic Acid Serum or The Ordinary Lactic Acid Serum. Since both fight hyperpigmentation, I use them interchangeably, depending on how much of which I have on hand. The Mandelic Acid Serum, however is a gentler formula than the Lactic Acid Serum, so keep that in mind if you're new to these products (or chemical exfoliation in general).

About once a week or every other week (depending on the condition of my skin), I apply The Ordinary Glycolic Acid 7% Toning Solution after cleansing my skin. I follow up with a moisturizer and sunscreen.

Once weekly, usually on Sunday, I apply The Ordinary AHA 30% + BHA 2% Peeling Solution after cleansing and toning with a gentle, hydrating toner. After 10 minutes, I rinse well and apply a creamy moisturizer, as this peeling solution tends to be drying.

It's safe to say, I've really become a fan of The Ordinary over the last few years. Not only do they have products that cater to my skincare needs, they are easily accessible (online and in Sephora), and very affordable!
