REVIEW | Pixi MatteLast Liquid Lip Collection

If you follow me on Instagram, you probably already know how excited I get about updating my makeup bag each season. And since spring is finally here, I've been all about finding the perfect hues of rose, blush, coral and other softer, neutral shades to add to my beauty arsenal. Last month, I received a beautiful package from Pixi that included their entire Rose Essence Collection. And in this collection were five pretty lippies from the MatteLast Liquid Lip Collection. When I tell you I was over-the-moon hype about this package, please believe me! I could not wait to put these lippies to the test and see if they would find a home in my spring beauty arsenal.

The Pixi MatteLast Liquid Lip is infused with rose hip seed oil, giving lips the hydration you wouldn't normally expect from a matte lip product. And the fact that these lippies are also paraben-free/cruelty free made me even more eager to test them out.

According to the Pixi Beauty website, these liquid lip products are "long-wearing, comfortable, and universally flattering." Since matte lipsticks have a reputation to be drying and wear uncomfortably on the lips, I could not wait to put these lippies to the test. I've worn them all out and about and I must say, I really like them for the most part.

Below are the liquid lipsticks I received in the order they are pictured above-- Au Naturelle, Matte Beige, Pastel Petal, Really Rose, and last but not least, Evening Rose.

Au Naturelle is a light peach nude that reads a bit coral on my lips. For the sake of this shot I wore it alone, but I def pair it with a liner.

Matte Beige is a light neutral beige. I didn't think this color would look well on my skin tone, but surprisingly it does. I am wearing it alone here, but I like the way it looks better with a chocolate colored lip liner.

Pastel Petal looks just like Matte Beige on my lips, just a bit cooler. Just as with Matte Beige, I like this color better paired with a chocolate liner.

Really Rose is a muted rose hue that I really love. And I don't even need a lip liner for this beauty. I just apply the color first around the perimeter of my lips with the tip of the doe-foot applicator and rock with it!

Evening Rose is my favorite of the bunch, so I had to single this one out! Evening Rose is similar to Really Rose, but with a touch of brown. I think that's what makes this color the most flattering in the collection for me. I don't wear a lip liner with it, either. I just make sure to exfoliate my lips, apply some lip balm, and it's good to go!

All in all, I'm feeling Pixi MatteLast Liquid Lips. The colors are neutral, yet vibrant (perfect for the spring season) and I believe that there is a shade to flatter any complexion in this collection. Sometimes when lines drop collections of nude/neutral lipsticks, I find it harder for women of color to find flattering shades among them. But that is definitely not the case for these beauties. Not only am I impressed with the color options, I'm really feeling the formula. These liquid lipsticks have a smooth consistency that isn't thick, yet applies evenly. And while it takes a few minutes to completely dry, it doesn't dry down in a tacky, flaky way in the creases of my lips.

Pixi MatteLast Liquid Lips wear comfortably for hours and don't budge until you make them. They will endure your breakfast, lunch, coffee break, cocktail hour, and dinner. And even as they do fade, they fade down to a pretty lip stain. By this point, I will admit I am reaching for my lip balm, though.

You can find each of these lippies at the Pixi website online or in Target stores for $14 each.
