LIPSTICK LOVE | Fenty Beauty Mattemoiselle Plush Matte Lipsticks

I know everyone is in love with so many of these new creamy lippies that have been showing up in the beauty world. Believe me, I do, too. But can we please take a second to pay homage to my favorite lipstick finish for a few minutes? Yes, ladies and gentlemen, I am talking about the ever-so-faithful matte. Once you get acquainted with a nice matte lipstick, she will stick closer to you than a supportive homegirl.

And since we've been wearing masks, matte lipsticks are the only lippies up to the task of lasting through the extra layer of protection.  So how about we take it back to some of my favorite matte lipsticks for a bit? Fenty Beauty Mattemoiselle Plush Matte Lipsticks have been getting a lot of play around my way this winter and since I haven't shared any swatches here on the blog, I thought today would be a great day to do so.

LIPSTICK LOVE | Sincerely Ciera Payton

lipstick for black women

Are you cautious about trying cosmetics for fear of the unknown ingredients? Has your sensitive skin made you resistant to trying the latest beauty trends? Do you always make sure to purchase cruelty-free, all-natural beauty & body care products? If you answered yes to any of these questions, you're in for a treat today!

Oftentimes when I share posts about my favorite lipsticks here, I'll have a few inquiries about more natural, mineral based options for women with sensitive skin. Actress Ciera Payton's new lipstick line, Sincerely Ciera Payton, is definitely an option that caters to this need often neglected in the beauty world. Sincerely Ciera Payton is a cosmetic line geared towards women who experience irritations and reactions to harmful toxins found in many cosmetics. These lipsticks are free of any preservatives and unnatural, synthetic ingredients. The line is also cruelty-free, as they aren't tested on animals.

Favorite Summer Lipsticks 2014

lipstick for women of color

One thing I love about the spring and summer months is the abundance of bright beautiful colors in the atmosphere! Along with warm and vibrant weather, folks can be seen rocking some of the most fiercest, shades of pinks, plums, and oranges. And what better way to bring color to your world than in my personal favorite way---by applying a shocking shade of lipstick?

Today I want to share with you the six lipstick colors I've been reaching for most this summer and will probably be wearing even more as the season progresses. Each shade is beautiful in its own right, and if you own any of these, I'm sure you will agree. I chose six shades from two of my favorite lipstick brands: MAC Cosmetics and Wet 'n' Wild Beauty. If you're familiar here on the blog, you know I swoon for the texture and vanilla scent of a MAC lippie, but love the intense pigment and affordable price of the Wet 'n' Wild MegaLast lippies.

The three MAC Lipsticks playing the back, from left to right are:
-Amplified Creme Lipstick in Shy Girl
-Satin Lipstick in Pink Nouveau
-Retro Matte in Flat Out Fabulous

And the three Wet 'n' Wild MegaLast Lipsticks in the front (l-r) are:
-Cherry Picking
-Wine Room
-24 Carrot Gold

Check out the swatches below. In natural light, Shy Girl barely shows up!

And these are the swatches on my lips. Shy Girl, which is on the left, is a go-to nude for me. I love how smooth and creamy this lipstick is. I usually pair a mauve liner or chestnut colored liner with this lippie. Pink Nouveau (top right) is one of my favorite pink lipsticks. This lipstick is a must-have for us bubblegum-pink lovers and is very long-lasting. I recently grabbed up Flat Out Fabulous (bottom right) a couple of months ago and fell in love. If you are a fan of the retro matte finishes (like Ruby Woo), this baby is a must-have as well. Each of these lipsticks can be purchased at www.maccosmetics.com and retail for $16.

Cherry Picking (top left) is a beautiful shade of magenta and packs a punch of color! Though these lippies are matte, I put a touch of lipgloss on before applying them because my lips were dry. If you don't apply a lip balm first, the MegaLast Lip Color can be pretty drying. Wine Room (bottom left) is more of an everyday lippie for me than the others (except Shy Girl). It's a soft, feminine pink that isn't too overpowering. Now 24 Carrot Gold (right) on the other hand, can be a shocking lipstick shade if you aren't used to wearing orange lipstick. I toned mine down with a bit of gloss and paired it with NYX lipliner in Espresso. I'd say this is a safe way to wear orange lips since they are really on trend this season. I usually grab these lippies from my local Walgreens, where they are currently on sale for $1.49!

Since I shared my favorites with you guys, now I would like to know your favorite lipsticks of the summer. Do you have any recommendations of others I should check out? I would like to know in the comments! And if you have a fierce picture of you rocking your favorite lippie(s) be sure to share it with me on Facebook or tag me on Instagram! I wanna see!

Let's Makeup | Featuring MAC Heroine Lipstick

Hey ladies and gents! I just wanted to check in for a minute to share the beauty that is MAC Heroine lipstick with you all today. A while back when I posted a makeup look with this lippie, I wore it paired with a gloss. I toned it down so much with the gloss that I wasn't able to properly display how gorgeous and full-bodied this beautiful matte lipstick really is. MAC Heroine is a shade of lipstick that compliments all complexions, especially us women of color. I find myself reaching for it quite often and have found that my husband loves the way it looks on me also! I took a few quick shots with my phone while I was getting dressed and decided to let you guys see it :-) And now that it's a part of MAC's permanent line, you can grab one for yourself from the site, too! If you don't have it already, I would definitely suggest trying it out. Check out today's look below.

Fall Matte Lips: Wet 'n Wild Megalast Lipsticks

Hey ladies! Last month when I posted about my favorite fall lippies, I was asked about some alternatives for the matte MAC lipsticks.  When thinking of matte lipsticks, my mind went to two that are among my favorite-- Wet 'n Wild Megalast Lipsticks in Cherry Bomb and Sugar Plum Fairy.  If you have been following the blog for a while, you may remember an earlier post in which I gush about my love for Sugar Plum Fairy. I'm here now to show that same love for Cherry Bomb also, as it has grown to be one of my favorites in a short period of time, as it is a recent purchase.  Check out both of these babies in action below.

Cherry Bomb can easily be used as a dupe for MAC Lipstick in Diva or could be compared to the popular limited edition lipstick Talk That Talk from the RiRi loves MAC collection.

Sugar Plum Fairy is almost an exact dupe of MAC Rebel, in case you were looking for one!

Wet 'n Wild Megalast Lipsticks are very pigmented, can easily last for a couple of hours without reapplying, and come in various shadesThey are also very affordable, at most $2.99 each, and can be found at many drugstores. In fact, these lipsticks sell for $1.99 in Walgreens and are currently on sale there for BOGO 50% off!  So if these look like lippies you would love to add to your collection, be sure to stop by Walgreens and grab up a few for you and a friend.

Do you own these lipsticks or any of the Wet 'n Wild Megalast Lipsticks?

My Lip "Picks" for Fall

One thing I am always very excited about in the fall season is the beauty trends.  I just love planning how I am going to incorporate color into my look-whether it's my makeup choices, my nails, or even my hair. The easiest way to incorporate color for me is always through my lip color.  I can't explain to you how amazing I feel when I apply my lipstick or lipgloss as I start my day-- it enhances my mood, expresses who I am, and makes others stop and notice from time to time also! Today I decided to share my obvious lippie obsession with you by posting a few tubes of lipstick and gloss from my stash that I'll be using a lot this fall. I'll even throw in some swatches for good measure!

What eyeshadows and lip colors have you been reaching for lately?

Three Ways to Wear Red Lips

When it comes to a polished, classic makeup look, there's nothing that compares to a bold red lip.  Red lips demand attention and add a silent sexiness to an otherwise average look.  And contrary to popular belief, a beautiful red lip can be achieved by every woman--women of ALL shades.  Whether you prefer to wear a moisturizing, creamy formula of lipstick, a high-shine gloss, or a retro matte lipstick, you too can rock a powerful red lippie.  Here are my three favorite ways to achieve a red puckered pout:

The Sultry, Satin Way
To achieve this lip look, I used Avon Ultra Color Rich Lipstick in Berry Berry Nice which retails for $7 on the Avon website. This lipstick's formula is creamy and moisturizing, all while providing opaque color. This is what makes it the easiest and most versatile way to rock the red lip.

For other creamy red lipstick options, check out Cover Girl Lip Perfection Lipstick in Hot, Burn, or Flame (depending on which red suits you best) or Milani Color Perfect Lipstick in Red Label or Red Velvet.  Cover Girl and Milani Lipsticks can be purchased at Ulta Beauty and various drugstores.

venomous villains

The High-Shine Gloss Way
With this look, I used MAC Lipglass in Wicked Ways from the Venomous Villains collection.  It retailed for $14.50 at the time of purchase and was a limited edition lip gloss. Choosing to rock your red lips in gloss form is a great way to try a red lip without committing to using a lipstick.  Lip gloss is more buildable, as  you can apply just a bit or slather on as much as you like to achieve the intensity of color that you desire.

For other red lip gloss options, check out NYX Round Lip Gloss in True Red or Revlon ColorBurst Lip Gloss in Fire. Both can be purchased at Ulta Beauty and various drugstores.

The Classic Matte Way
Of the three ways to rock a fierce red lip, this one is my favorite.  The matte red lip just exudes retro glam.  And it just wouldn't be right if I didn't rock my darling favorite matte lippie, MAC Ruby Woo, to sell you on wearing red lipstick.  MAC Ruby Woo Lipstick retails for $15 on the MAC website and is one of MAC's bestsellers for obvious reasons.  Just wearing this lipstick makes me feel like a supermodel or a socialite or some other sexy beast, I tell ya!

For other matte red lipstick options, check out Wet n Wild Mega Last in Stoplight Red, Revlon Matte Lipstick in Really Red, or NARS Velvet Matte Lip Pencil in Dragon Girl. Wet n Wild and Revlon lipsticks can be purchased at various drugstores while the NARS lip pencil is available at Sephora and the NARS website.

Warning: Don't Forget the Liner
To keep these lip looks in their truest red form, I've lined my lips with Avon Ultra Luxury Lipliner in Wildberry.  If you would like to tone your red lip down, however, you could use a brown liner such as NYX Slim Lip Pencil in Expresso or Iman Perfect Lip Pencil in Espresso.  Just be sure to blend the lip liner in well with the lipstick!

My Starting Five Lipsticks for Fall

Some of the most inspiring makeup looks I've seen for the fall season have incorporated beautiful plum-stained lips.  Being a fan of deep, statement making lip colors, I decided to trade in my summer lipsticks for some fall-favoring purples as well.  In this post, I will be sharing with you five lipsticks that I believe will translate nicely into fall.  These choices I consider to be my "starting five" as I will be grabbing for them the most this season.  They are all different brands with different finishes and price points.  Below, all of the lipsticks are pictured with flash.  The descriptions following are ordered from left to right.

1. Wet n Wild Megalast Lipcolor in Sugar Plum Fairy: You may remember this lipstick being featured on the blog this week here. This plum lipstick is the only one in the bunch with a matte finish.  It is very-long lasting & a definite must for those grown & sophisticated makeup looks you're going to wear this fall.  Sugar Plum Fairy retails for 2.99 at stores such as K-Mart, Walmart, CVS, and Walgreens.
2. Revlon Super Lustrous Lipstick in Violet Frenzy:  This lipstick is a deep violet with hints of shimmer in it.  It has a pearl finish and goes on a bit sheer compared to the other lipsticks.  Violet Frenzy's even, sheer application make it the easiest shade to wear in the daytime.  It retails for $7.99 in various drugstores.
3. CoverGirl Lip Perfection Lipstick in Embrace: In the tubing, Embrace looks strikingly similar to Revlon's Violet Frenzy.  Embrace, however is much more pigmented. It retails for $6.99 and can be purchased at various drugstores as well.
*An added bonus to this lipstick is CoverGirl states that lips become noticeably smoother with 7 days of continuous use.  I haven't used any lipstick ever for 7 days straight, so I haven't tested this theory yet.  Have any of you?  If so, what were your results?
4. MAC Pro Longwear LipCreme in Seasoned Plum:  This lipstick is a favorite in my collection. Seasoned Plum has a lavender tint to it similar to that of MAC's Up the Amp, without the glossy application. While Seasoned Plum goes on creamy, it stays in place with a "settling" effect.  It doesn't transfer and is pretty long-lasting.  Seasoned Plum is a limited edition lipcreme from the Daphne Guiness Collection and has been discontinued.  MAC Pro Longwear LipCremes retail at $18.00 on the MAC website.
* For a similar plum lipcreme, check out MAC's Goes and Goes
5: Makeup Forever Rouge Artist Intense Lipstick in Pearly Violet (#15):  This lipstick is a vibrant shade of purple with a beautiful pearl finish.  I shared about this lipstick before here.  It retails for $19.00 and can be purchased at Sephora or the Make Up Forever Website.

Stay tuned for makeup looks featuring these lipsticks!
