Friday FOTD: Crazy for Coral

Happy Friday, loves! I hope everyone is having a beautiful day today. And even if your day isn't going as smoothly as you had envisioned it, there's still time to get a lot of "happy" in! I'm having a pretty awesome day so far. There's something about believing and affirming that EVERYTHING WILL WORK OUT that will change a perspective quick! So I'm thankful today for God's grace, a changed perspective, and all of the inspiration and positivity surrounding me today.

I haven't worn any makeup in a while, but today I wanted my look to match my sunny disposition. And while I didn't want to apply too much makeup on a warm day, I needed a little "color" in my life! Now I don't know about you guys, but there's something about the spring and summer months that makes me instantly gravitate towards coral. So I pulled out a coral lippie, reached for a coral eyeshadow, and got to work!

Here's a list of everything I used for the look:

Brows:
MAC Brow Pencil in Spiked
Milani Brow Tint Pen in Dark Brown
MAC Studio Fix Concealer in NC42

Eyes:
Urban Decay Eyeshadow Primer
BH Cosmetics 120 Palette (1st Edition)
Rimmel ScandalEyes Liner in Neutral
Rimmel GlamEyes Liquid Eyeliner in Black
Wet N Wild MegaVolume Mascara in Black

Face:
Avon Illuminating Face Perfector (primer)
MAC Face and Body Foundation in C7
Graftobian HD Glamour Creme in Midnight Marigold
MAC MSF in Dark
La Femme Blush in Russet

Lips:
NYX Slim Lip Pencil in Espresso
MAC Viva Glam Cyndi Lipglass
Wet N Wild Mega Last Lipstick in 24 Carat Gold

This look is quite simple and easy to recreate. I basically followed my everyday makeup routine and swapped out a few of the products I normally use. As for the eye, you can use any coral eyeshadow you'd like on the lid and blend a little bit of matte brown shadow to your crease for the same effect. And of course, to make the look (or any look) really pop, all you have to do is add a SMILE or a SMIZE (shout to Tyra Banks) to the mix ;-)

How are you rocking your makeup today?

Let's Makeup | Featuring MAC Heroine Lipstick

Hey ladies and gents! I just wanted to check in for a minute to share the beauty that is MAC Heroine lipstick with you all today. A while back when I posted a makeup look with this lippie, I wore it paired with a gloss. I toned it down so much with the gloss that I wasn't able to properly display how gorgeous and full-bodied this beautiful matte lipstick really is. MAC Heroine is a shade of lipstick that compliments all complexions, especially us women of color. I find myself reaching for it quite often and have found that my husband loves the way it looks on me also! I took a few quick shots with my phone while I was getting dressed and decided to let you guys see it :-) And now that it's a part of MAC's permanent line, you can grab one for yourself from the site, too! If you don't have it already, I would definitely suggest trying it out. Check out today's look below.

My Lip "Picks" for Fall

One thing I am always very excited about in the fall season is the beauty trends.  I just love planning how I am going to incorporate color into my look-whether it's my makeup choices, my nails, or even my hair. The easiest way to incorporate color for me is always through my lip color.  I can't explain to you how amazing I feel when I apply my lipstick or lipgloss as I start my day-- it enhances my mood, expresses who I am, and makes others stop and notice from time to time also! Today I decided to share my obvious lippie obsession with you by posting a few tubes of lipstick and gloss from my stash that I'll be using a lot this fall. I'll even throw in some swatches for good measure!

1. MAC Amplified Creme Lipstick in Violetta
2. MAC Lipglass in All of My Purple Life (LE-Blogger's Obsession Collection)
3. MAC Lipglass in Wrong Spell (LE-Venomous Villains Collection)

Below are the lip swatches. Nevermind the fact that I am not wearing a full face of makeup, honey.

Current Beauty Favorites: June 2013

summer beauty favorites
Hey ladies! Just wanted to do a quick post to share my current beauty favorites for the month of June.  Check out all the details below!

summer beauty favorite lip products

If I had to list my top 3 go-to beauty products of all time, I guarantee you that the EOS lip balms would definitely be in the mix.  I find them all over my room, in my purse, and my hubby & kids even use them (as I buy them for those guys too).  They are so moisturizing and have a nice variety of flavors. This one in particular I've been using most often recently is the EOS Lip Balm in Pomegranate Raspberry as my favorite, Summer Fruit, has run out :( All in all, I love it and will probably buy another one when it runs out.

For some reason, I've been wearing more glosses than lipsticks lately.  It could be because applying them takes much less time and effort and do not require a lipliner.  Or it could be because I can always count on my purse to be housing a bunch of lip glosses as opposed to lipsticks.  My MAC lipglasses are my favorites because of the light vanilla scent they have, with the exception of the plushglass.  I've most often been
reaching for my plushglass in the I heart U from the Quite Cute Collection, and lipglasses Stay Sweet (from the Archie's Girls Collection), Strange Potion (from the Venomous Villains Collection) and Viva Glam Cyndi.  As you can see, I'm a sucker for MAC's limited edition collections. Le sigh.

When I do wear lipstick, I grab for Wet N Wild Megalast Lipstick in 24 Carrot Gold & MAC Lipstick in Heroine most often.  I didn't own a matte orange lipstick so I was ecstatic when I found one for only $2.99!  In fact, I'll be sharing a look with this lipstick soon so keep your eyes peeled! And if you read my FOTD post featuring MAC Lipstick in Heroine last month, you already know how much I am in love with that shade.

It's no secret that I'm a big fan of the NYX lipliners. They are super affordable and they have the largest variety of shades I've ever seen!  NYX lipliner in Bloom is my most recent lipliner purchase and I find myself using it each time I rock a pink lip.

With the summer weather here, I haven't been wanting to wear anything heavy on my face.  But the MAC Mineralize Skinfinish Natural in Dark has become one of my staple products over the last few months.  If I'm not setting my foundation with this product, I am lightly dusting a bit of it on my face to control shine throughout the day and even out my skin tone.

If you've been around here for a while, you know that the e.l.f. studio blushes are among my favorite beauty products.  These blushes are very affordable and (with the exception of a few) have a quality very comparable to NARS blushes.  The two I've been grabbing for a lot lately are Fuchsia Fusion and Twinkle Pink.  They go well with the pink lips I'm known to wear quite often.

Nothing gives my face a bronzing glow like NARS Blush in Taj Mahal. It's one of the first NARS blushes I've ever purchased and grabbing it up was like love at first sight.  Using a light flush of blush on the cheekbones gives a beautiful glow perfect for summertime, so I'll probably be using it a lot this season.

mac spiked pencil

And lastly, but certainly not least, are the products I've been using on my brows lately.  It's been a long road, but I've finally grown back my brows!  Of course, they aren't as dark and defined as I would like for them to be, but with the help of MAC Eyebrow Pencil in Spiked and or Milani's Brow Tint Pen in Dark Brown, my brows are looking better and much more natural.  I tried these products per the suggestion of my fellow beauty loving MUA whose fb fan page I stalk friend Kemba and have yet to be disappointed.  What I love most about the MAC Eyebrow Pencil is that it's waterproof, a must for summer wear.  I love that the Milani Brow Tint Pen has a felt-tip and with small strokes, does a great job of mimicking the appearance of hairs.  Thanks, Kemba! You're a lifesaver, hunni!

Blues Mama: FOTD + Baby Bump Reveal

Happy Hump Day, guys! I promised myself I wouldn't wait forever to share another FOTD here on the blog.  And since I rarely wear blue eyeshadow, I thought it would be nice to share today's look with you all. For some reason, I usually stick to neutral shades, pinks, or purples when it comes to adding color to my eyes. I even use a bit of green every now and again, but I can't remember the last time I've worn blue. So I pulled out my BH Cosmetics 120 Palette (1st edition), picked out a few turquoise shades that complimented the turquoise in my tank top (since I wanted to be bright like that), and rocked a neutral lippie using MAC Lipstick in Shy Girl and MAC Lipglass in Cultured. And I didn't care whether the eye would be daytime friendly or not, because I just wanted to be bold like that :-)

I wish I would have taken these pictures with my camera instead of my phone so you could get a better view of how intense the eyeshadows actually were. I'm sorry :( I'll make a note to take better pictures next time.

Too bad I can't rock these heels for too long!

Purple Kisses: FOTD with MAC Heroine Lipstick

Okay, I'll admit it. It's been forever and a day since I've posted a FOTD here on the blog! And to get back into the groove of things, I decided to share today's look with you guys.  I reached for my beloved MAC Wonder Woman Defiance palette to play up my eyes and pulled out my MAC Heroine lipstick that I was so happy to FINALLY get from the MAC Spring 2013 Fashion Sets Collection. Talk about somebody being pressed to get a lipstick! But anyways, I came up with a basic look that's perfect for daytime wear/everyday wear. I even toned down the lippie by adding a gloss, making it more wearable for anytime. Check out the deets for today's look below and tell me what you think!

What eyeshadows and lip colors have you been reaching for lately?

February Beauty Favorites

Hey ladies! Just wanted to do a quick post to share my beauty favorites for the month of February.  I was enjoying nude lips, plum lips (per usual), lilac pouts, mauve blush and products that helped give me a bit of a glow.  Check them out below!

I found myself applying The Body Shop Vitamin C Skin Boost on the daily after my moisturizer and right before my primer (if I wore makeup).  It gave my face a radiant glow, makes it feel soft and silky, and smells so refreshing! The heavenly citrus-y smell is a great pick-me-up for the mornings also.  The Body Shop Vitamin C Skin Boost can be purchased from The Body Shop.

Looking for something new to set my highlighted areas when applying foundation, I dug in my crate and brought out my Ben Nye Banana Luxury Powder.  When I first got it, I only used it a few times to set my undereye concealer, but since I've been practicing to perfect my highlighting technique, I've found this most helpful. I purchased the Ben Nye Banana Luxury Powder from Makeup Mania.  There are different sizes and shades available also.

Milani Baked Blush in Fantastico Mauve has become my favorite blush over the months.  It is my favorite from the Milani line, and I find myself reaching for it everyday! I just love the mauve/plum flush it gives my complexion when I apply it.  Milani Baked Blush in Fantastico Mauve can be found at the Milani website as well as most drugstores.

I've been using the Avon Magix Illuminating Face Perfector as a primer for a while now and I must say I'm loving it.  I love that it applies as a soft gel and dries to almost a powdery consistency-- this is the perfect canvas for my otherwise oily skin!  It helps my foundation to glide on smoothly and makes my skin feel so soft!  Avon Magix Illuminating Face Perfector can be purchased from the Avon website or from your local Avon Independent Sales Representative.

I didn't play with too much lip color in February, but when I did I was constantly grabbing for these products, especially Maybelline Color Sensational Vivids Lipstick in Hot Plum.  It is the perfect plum lipstick! It has great pigment and is quite moisturizing.  Hot Plum has been my favorite lipstick this season so be prepared to see a couple of FOTDs featuring this lippie in the upcoming weeks!  Maybelline Color Sensational Vivids Lipstick in Hot Plum could be purchased at virtually any drugstore.

If you saw my Valentine's Day FOTD on Instagram or Facebook, you will see that I pulled my MAC Lipglass in Pink Poodle out of the stash! I've been loving this hot pink gloss lately and almost forgot I had it! MAC Tinted Lipglass in Pink Poodle can be purchased from your local MAC counter or from the MAC website.

I've been loving the lilac-hued lips lately, so my go-to lipstick + lipgloss combination last month was Maybelline Color Whisper Lipstick in Oh La Lilac and Revlon Super Lustrous Lipgloss in Lilac Pastelle.  It's like these two products were made to be paired!  I love the soft look they give combined.  Both Maybelline Color Whisper Lipstick in Oh La Lilac and Revlon Super Lustrous Lipgloss in Lilac Pastelle can be purchased at most drugstores.

Now lastly, but certainly not least are the nude lippies I was into for the month of February.  Since I was most often wearing a neutral look everywhere I went, I stayed grabbing for these three lippies.

I most often wore MAC Cremesheen Lipstick in Shy Girl (as it is one of my favorite nude lipsticks) and layered it with MAC Lipglass in Emancipation from the Wonder Woman LE Collection to make it last longer. Both were purchased from MAC, but Emancipation was LE and is no longer being sold.

NYX Mega Shine Lipgloss in Perfect is that rare nude that I keep in my purse. I love the doe-foot applicator and the fruity fragrance of the gloss. If I'm barely wearing anything at all, it's usually only an application or two of NYX Mega Shine Lipgloss in Perfect on my lips.  It can be purchased from Ulta, Cherry Culture, or the NYX website.

Three Ways to Wear Red Lips

When it comes to a polished, classic makeup look, there's nothing that compares to a bold red lip.  Red lips demand attention and add a silent sexiness to an otherwise average look.  And contrary to popular belief, a beautiful red lip can be achieved by every woman--women of ALL shades.  Whether you prefer to wear a moisturizing, creamy formula of lipstick, a high-shine gloss, or a retro matte lipstick, you too can rock a powerful red lippie.  Here are my three favorite ways to achieve a red puckered pout:

The Sultry, Satin Way
To achieve this lip look, I used Avon Ultra Color Rich Lipstick in Berry Berry Nice which retails for $7 on the Avon website. This lipstick's formula is creamy and moisturizing, all while providing opaque color. This is what makes it the easiest and most versatile way to rock the red lip.

For other creamy red lipstick options, check out Cover Girl Lip Perfection Lipstick in Hot, Burn, or Flame (depending on which red suits you best) or Milani Color Perfect Lipstick in Red Label or Red Velvet.  Cover Girl and Milani Lipsticks can be purchased at Ulta Beauty and various drugstores.

venomous villains

The High-Shine Gloss Way
With this look, I used MAC Lipglass in Wicked Ways from the Venomous Villains collection.  It retailed for $14.50 at the time of purchase and was a limited edition lip gloss. Choosing to rock your red lips in gloss form is a great way to try a red lip without committing to using a lipstick.  Lip gloss is more buildable, as  you can apply just a bit or slather on as much as you like to achieve the intensity of color that you desire.

For other red lip gloss options, check out NYX Round Lip Gloss in True Red or Revlon ColorBurst Lip Gloss in Fire. Both can be purchased at Ulta Beauty and various drugstores.

The Classic Matte Way
Of the three ways to rock a fierce red lip, this one is my favorite.  The matte red lip just exudes retro glam.  And it just wouldn't be right if I didn't rock my darling favorite matte lippie, MAC Ruby Woo, to sell you on wearing red lipstick.  MAC Ruby Woo Lipstick retails for $15 on the MAC website and is one of MAC's bestsellers for obvious reasons.  Just wearing this lipstick makes me feel like a supermodel or a socialite or some other sexy beast, I tell ya!

For other matte red lipstick options, check out Wet n Wild Mega Last in Stoplight Red, Revlon Matte Lipstick in Really Red, or NARS Velvet Matte Lip Pencil in Dragon Girl. Wet n Wild and Revlon lipsticks can be purchased at various drugstores while the NARS lip pencil is available at Sephora and the NARS website.

Warning: Don't Forget the Liner
To keep these lip looks in their truest red form, I've lined my lips with Avon Ultra Luxury Lipliner in Wildberry.  If you would like to tone your red lip down, however, you could use a brown liner such as NYX Slim Lip Pencil in Expresso or Iman Perfect Lip Pencil in Espresso.  Just be sure to blend the lip liner in well with the lipstick!

November Beauty Favorites

I know it has been a long time since I've shared a monthly beauty favorites post with you guys.  But as I was looking at my vanity and thinking of how much I've been grabbing for certain items lately, I decided to get back in the swing of things.  Here are the beauty products I've been giving the most play in November.

Lollipop Metallic Eyeshadow FOTD

la colors eyeshadow lollipop

Hello my fellow beauty lovers!  I have a serious question for you today. How often do you find yourself collecting beauty products, purchasing more before you can use the ones you have? When I started organizing my spaces this summer, I realized that I was a makeup hoarder.  It's not extreme, but I did notice that I have several eyeshadow palettes that are similar.  So in an attempt to control my "makeup collecting" I have been shopping my stash and using some of the products I rarely use.

Once upon a time, I had an obsession with collecting eyeshadow palettes.  And one of my favorites to collect were the L.A. Colors 5 Color Metallic Eyeshadow palettes.  They were a steal at $1.50 each, and they had so many colors to choose from.  I ended up scoring several of these palettes and now I rarely use them.  So today, I decided to pull out the "Lollipop" palette and work it out. Check out the eyes, guys:

la colors metallic eyeshadow lollipop

Here is the entire list of products I used for my face of the day:

Face:
e.l.f. Mineral Infused Prmer
Avon Healthy Makeup Concealer
Avon Pefect Wear Foundation in Beautiful Bronze
(Flush of Blush) La Femme Blush in Purple Passion

Eyes:
Ruby Kisses Eyeshadow Primer
L A Colors 5 Color Metallic Eyeshadow Palette in Lollipop
Avon Super Extend Liquid Eyeliner in Black
e.l.f. Studio Mascara Primer
Avon Super Extend Mascara in Black

Lips:
MAC Lipglass in Culture Clash

Since I wanted the eyeshadow to stand out and be the main attraction, I decided to pair this palette with a neutral, shimmery lipgloss like MAC Lipglass in Culture Clash.  It is also another product that I was in love with when I first got it, but sort of got moved to the back burner.  It's amazing what treasures you'll find shopping your stash!

Have you tried any of the L.A. Colors Metallic Eyeshadow palettes?

DUPED: Up the Amp vs Divine

Hey ladies! I hope you enjoyed last week's post as I shared a great dupe for MAC Viva Glam Nicki.  This week, I decided to share another quick dupe post.  This time, I'm sharing a dupe for one of my all-time favorite lipsticks, MAC Up the Amp.

MAC Up the Amp lipstick is described on MAC's website as a lavender violet.  It has an amplified creme finish, giving it a rich, creamy application.  It retails for $14.50 $15 on the MAC website and at your local MAC counters.  Now for a cheaper alternative, I share with you Covergirl Lip Perfection in Divine.

Here are the swatches.  Can you tell them apart?

The one on the left is Covergirl Lip Perfection in Divine.
The one on the right is MAC Up the Amp.

Do you see a big difference?

As far as differences go, I can see a slight difference in the shades.  While both of them have creamy consistencies, and are long lasting, Up the Amp appears to be more blue-based.  And of course, while Up the Amp rocks a $14.50  $15 price tag, you can purchase Divine from CVS or any other drugstore for around $7.99.

Covergirl Lip Perfection in Divine comes in great, sleek packaging and I have never seen another shade like this one in drugstores.  It really stands out on the shelves and in my opinion, is a real steal!  Quality lipstick at an unbeatable price?  I ain't mad at that!

DO YOU HAVE EITHER OF THESE? IF NOT, WILL YOU BE TRYING THEM?

Stay tuned for next week's "Duped!" post!

DUPED: MAC Viva Glam Nicki vs WnW Pinkerbell

Hey ladies!  Remember back in May when I showed you my favorite spring lippies here on the blog?  Well in that post, I shared MAC Viva Glam Nicki, which happens to be a popular shade for the summer as well.  Described on the MAC website as a bright yellow pink with a satin finish, Viva Glam Nicki packs a huge punch of color with application.  But did you ladies know that you don't have to spend $15 to get this shade?  Well, the other day when I was playing around with my lippies, I noticed that Wet n Wild MegaLast lipstick in Pinkerbell looked very similar to the Viva Glam Nicki.

Here are the swatches.  Can you tell them apart?

The one on the left is Wet 'n' Wild MegaLast Lipstick in Pinkerbell
The one on the right is MAC Viva Glam Nicki.

Do you see a difference?

As far as differences go, Viva Glam Nicki has a satin finish, while Pinkerbell has a matte finish.  Both of them are long lasting, because of their finishes.  The main difference I see, however, is the price tags on them both.  Viva Glam Nicki costs $15 and can be purchased from maccosmetics.com or your local MAC counter.  Pinkerbell costs anywhere between .99 and 2.99 (depending on which drugstore you go to and if you have a coupon on hand) and can be purchased from K-Mart, Walmart, CVS, and other drugstores.

One thing I did not like about the MegaLast lipsticks is the packaging.  Residue from the black tube seems to be rubbing off onto my hands when I use this lipstick. Has anyone else had this problem with the MegaLast lipsticks?

DO YOU HAVE VIVA GLAM NICKI? PINKERBELL?  IF NOT, WILL YOU BE TRYING THEM?

Check out the beautiful Jaleesie's video on 5 different ways to rock Viva Glam Nicki (or Pinkerbell if you prefer.  I mean who's gonna know lol).

Stay tuned for my Duped post next week!
