Seven Items To Add To Your Makeup Bag This Fall + Winter

Now that it's finally feeling like Fall here in Southeastern North Carolina, I've been making some changes, starting with my makeup bag! Remember a few weeks ago when we were talking about updating our wardrobes, beauty products and all that good stuff over on IG? Well since I've been cleaning out my makeup bag and replacing a few items, I thought it would be great to bring you guys along for the ride with this post. Here are seven items I felt must be added to my makeup bag for these cooler months. A change has come, and it is time to embrace some new hues, honey!

1. TRIED AND TRUE BASE PRODUCTS | During the warmer months, I had my fair share of tinted moisturizers, BB creams, and barely-there base products. They were all necessary for perfecting the complexion without sweating everything off at that time. But now that the cooler months are here to stay, I'm ready to revisit my mattifying full-coverage foundations with creamier formulas like my Believe Beauty Skin Finish Foundation and Fenty Beauty Pro Filt'r Soft Matte Longwear Foundation. I know these foundations will stay in place for as long as I would like for them to and will create a flawless canvas for my face. I am, however, a creature of habit and still keep my lightweight MAC Face and Body Foundation in my makeup bag throughout the seasons, just in case.

2. LIP PRODUCTS IN DEEP HUES | If you've been around here for a while, you know I love lipsticks more than any other beauty product. And while I told you here I would wear any shade of lipstick I wanted (no matter the season), I'm always so compelled to reach for deep hues once fall hits. There's just something about a deep wine or berry lipstick that compels me to edit my makeup bag. Lip favorites like Burt's Bees Gloss Lip Crayon in Pacific Coast, ColourPop x iluvsarahii Ultra Metallic Lip in Coquette, ColourPop x Ellarie Ultra Matte Lip in Hennyways, ColourPop x Shayla Ultra Matte Lip in Shay Day, NYX Lip Lingerie in Beauty Mark, and The Lip Bar Liquid Matte Lipstick in Prima Donna have been reintroduced to my rotation. And because we know moisturized lips in the cooler months is a must, I made sure to add a lip balm like Ruby Kisses Kissable Lip Elixir to the bag.

3. EYESHADOW PALETTES | I will keep it all the way real with you guys. I abandoned all but one of my eyeshadow palettes this summer, so I may be talking to myself more than I'm talking to you guys on this one. While I leaned on my favorite neutral/natural palette this summer, this fall and winter, I'm grabbing for more jewel-toned palettes in my stash. I'm looking to play in some deep greens, smoldering blues, and bold burgundies I can do smoky eye looks with like the ones seen in Makeup Shayla's Perception palette and Raye Boyce's latest palette.

4. JEWEL-TONED EYE LINERS | Speaking of pretty jewel-tones, I think it's always a great idea to add some of those shades in all parts of your makeup routine. If you aren't up to adding eyeshadow to your makeup routine, why not add a pop of color with a pretty, pigmented eyeliner? Beauties like the Believe Beauty Long Lasting Eyeliner in Queen Mauve and L.A. Girl Perfect Precision Eyeliner in Tropical make my otherwise boring, bare eyes pop with just a swipe of color on my bottom lashline.

5. "IN YOUR FACE" MASCARA | While lipsticks may be my favorite beauty product, I love playing up my eyes the most when it comes to my makeup routine. There's just so many ways you can do it: you can go bold with brows and winged liner, subtle with natural eyeshadows, or IN YOUR FACE with powerful lengthening, volumizing, or even colored mascara. This season, I've grabbed a few new formulas including Maybelline Colossal Big Shot in black and purple to give my barely-there lashes a big boost in volume + color when I want to really show out. Just as I mentioned before with the colorful eyeliners, colored mascara is another effortless way to add a bold pop of color to your makeup routine.

6. BERRY BLUSHES | There's something about berry and wine colored blushes that give me that flush of blush I need as the temps drop lower and lower. These colors definitely keep me looking fresh and glowy, no matter how cold I really am under the leather jackets and hoodies I'm rocking. Speaking of fresh and glowy, I get my blush/bronzer fix from the new Fresh Glow Bronzer + Blush Duo from the Lip Bar in Just Got Paid. This beauty combo promises to have you looking like you've been "kissed by the sun," even when it's BRICK out.

7. A NICE, AUTUMN SCENT | During the spring and summer months, I wore DKNY Be Delicious: Fresh Blossom nearly every day. There was something about this floral, fruity scent that just screamed that spring was indeed in bloom. But now that the seasons are changing, I've been preparing to switch up my scent with spicy, musky options like Elizabeth & James Nirvana White or rich gourmand fragrances like YSL Black Opium and Prada Candy. Heavier scents like these make me feel warm, mysterious, and seductive, a welcomed change for the seasons.

And just like that, my makeup bag is updated with beautiful jewel-tones, volumizing mascaras, berry and chocolate-hued lippies, and alluring scents to last me all season. Whether you decide to stick to your beauty basics or go all out and edit everything in your makeup bag, I hope you use products that make you feel like your beautiful, best self-- no matter the season. If that confidence is somehow piqued with a sultry lipstick or a foundation with a skin-like finish, feel no guilt in adding it to your shopping cart, sis!
